Oh goody we have data now that tells us we have no, none, absolutely none attainable housing for anybody.
we've never had this problem before it's been identified by spreadsheet data most likely the product of the rain Coast education Society/quack what? biosphere working diligently to supply the district of tofino with thoughts and prayers about attainable housing.
most councils do not really want attainable house. it's a great talking point.
almost since the attainable housing initiative was included in the OCP many members of Council's have worked diligently in the background to stall and obfuscate the work of anybody stupid enough to be on an attainable Housing committee and the Housing Corporation.
they were stupid enough to bring a planner here with a Masters in social housing to be the manager.
just in time for the mayor to decide the planner would be better off as the district planner and subsequently the CEO.

It's all the fault of those eleven "evil, greedy, illegal, unlicensed STR's" out at South Chestermans! Those people should all be shot, jailed, bankrupted, ostracized, charged, taxed, fined, penalized, and run out of town on the next train! That would fix everything.
First, we'll need to hire a consultant to help us figure out when the next train leaves.

I wonder if Mayor and council will apply to have the foreign buyers tax to Tofino ?

the foreign buyers tax doesn't apply to individuals buying up multiple VRS.....

Blah Blah Blah. Bureaucratic mumbo jumbo. With talk like that it is clear they are no closer to doing anything. Waiting for the federal gov't to do something. My God Reminds me of the classic "couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery".

Mayor Osbourne refers to an affordability gap, in regard to developing rental housing, suggesting the numbers, even with free land, just don't add up. I thought they just turned down an eighty unit apartment, at no cost to the taxpayer, on private land. This just makes no sense.

This reminds me of an election where the PC's were saying on page 1 how they can control the price of lumber and other natural resources to make BC richer. Then the chief economist on page 21 said again to educate the public, lumber prices are set on the world stage, not in BC or in Canada.... that applies to gold and other natural resources of BC.

How can a biologist who needs to cheat in order to make their property ( Botanical Gardens) survive, understand anything about housing? This is why they keep paying consultants with district money.... they can't figure it out. Greg Blanchete can't figure out why he is homeless either....

Honestly, this group and I mean council, Aaron, CAO.... need to go! Drain the swamp

Poole seems to have more effective strategies. Hire him.

Good one !

Maybe there's not enough religion in council chambers. They say that with God, all things are possible. Perhaps her Lordship could lead council in prayer before each council meeting, that might get God working on the housing problem too.

What am example homeless Greg Blanchete sets, what a loser! We can do much better this November, vote the bum out.

Get with the programme. The proper form of address is "Her Worship". Literally prayer to an all mighty deity. There will not be any introduction of God into council meetings. Council chambers are too small to accommodate two Gods at the same time.

9:03 AM....... LOVE IT!!

I'm wondering why the mayor hasn't spoken out against the NRA and the oversupply of guns in society. Doesn't she care about safety in the schools? Since she has no children, is this subject of little relevance to her? No votes there? If the mayor isn't going to lead the struggle to protect our children, then who is?

You brought children into this world and now you expect Josie Osbourne to protect them.

Bravo.

Why not?

Other people bring children into the world, and then expect Josie Osborne to find them a free or cheap house to live in.

Which she don't seem to mind spending the taxpayer's money on.

I was only suggesting that she speak to promoting the safety of our children.

There's no way they should approve the Yew Wood condo building without a legal understanding that they are building next to Industrial Way. Apparently the current residents of Yew Wood were unaware that they were building next to the loudest and stinkiest part of town and now they want it to stop being loud and stinky. It turns out that the town was right to object to Yew Wood in the first place.

This is how Osborne solves problems.......... " Ucluelet has made neighbouring First Nations and Tofino aware of the work they’re doing, but official conversations around potential partnerships have not yet occurred.

During the public question period of Feb. 13’s regular council meeting in Tofino, The Westerly News asked if Tofino has any interest in investigating Kennedy Lake as a potential water source.

“Investigating a new water source is something that’s on the horizon potentially one day but i dont think we have any time estimates for when that will be,” responded mayor Josie Osborne. “If Ucluelet discovers some interesting things and wants to approach Tofino, we’d be all ears.”

This quote is full of opportunities for comment. Let me focus on one.

Have we seen this movie before? Mayor Osbourne's version of "Backing into the Future". I take from her comment, that Tofino is currently NOT investigating new water sources. This is as honest a response as we are likely to get.

This is also as pathetic as it gets. How many proposals for development(housing options) have been told we don't have enough water. This is the real elephant in the room. This is the BIG LIE that underpins almost every thing council has been doing and not doing. Obviously they don't want any water or any development.

Welcome to your future folks. Your future is now disappearing in the rear view mirror...

Ucluelet has discovered something. If you have forgotten, there is water in Kennedy lake, lots of it. The possibilities for cost sharing are enormous and therefore the possibilities for cost reduction for any one community, are enormous.

The biggest cost in Kennedy lake water is the cost of developing an intake and series of pumping stations to get it to the coast, and electricity to power it. Much of that could be shared. Get your head out of wherever it resides and take a look. Forget diversity, reconciliation and our carbon footprint for a few moments and talk to our neighbours. Seriously.

RE: 9:18AM & 12:57PM Rather than waste your breath criticising Mayor Osborne why don't you people run against her in the next election? She hasn't had any competition in the past 2 elections. I bet she would wipe the floor with you!

Anonymous said...

Your right. Criticising Mayor Osbourne is a waste of breath.

Yes winning by acclamation is an embarrassment!
Others have to run. We need a clean slate. Councillors and Mayor!
