At least some of those elected understand the tax payers do not want a rink. Now the rest of them better get on side and sink the insane rink and pool idea once and for all.

I’d like the tax paying public to build me a new house. I will offer to open it up for public coffee drinking so I can claim public use as a rational for their paying for my house. The rest of the time my small group of hockey playing friends will use it as a private clubhouse.

Not much different than the rink group’s proposal.
The Tofino taxpayers have clearly said no to the fiasco.

Perhaps it's an insane idea, perhaps it isn't. Perhaps it's a fiasco, perhaps not. Perhaps it's only a dream, but what's wrong with having a dream? If someone wants to dream, they have the right to do so. It's certainly not wrong, it's not evil or meant to harm anyone, so what's the harm in it.
"sink the insane....... idea once and for all"? Why? What's the reasoning behind shitting on someone's corn flakes? It would actually be great to see a facility like this proposal built and operated for the youth of our community. I can see no outcome that could make this facility a "bad thing". On the other hand, I can see many potential benefits coming from it in years to come. I'd much rather see the kids hanging out at the rink or the pool, than hanging out behind CIBC, drunk.
So, if someone wants to have a dream, wants to strive forward, work hard, use restraint and thrift and common sense to achieve their goal. If someone wants to volunteer their time and sweat and energy to drive this project forward. If someone wishes to rally their community for support and assistance and cooperation. If someone is willing to give of themselves to better the community where we all live, then we owe them a far better sentiment than to wish to "sink their idea".

We, at the very least, owe them the opportunity to try. Not scorn and hate and negativity. Surely we're better than that.

Just because some of us cannot see a path toward this dream does not mean that the dream is impossible. It may indeed be difficult. It may require great effort, most things worth having do. But it could possibly be done.

So let the dreamers dream. It does no harm. Perhaps, one day, it might be your child or grandchild that finds a better path for their life from the potential of this dream.

A great deal of effort has already been put into this dream. It would be a waste and a shame to see it all discarded because of the lack of vision of a vocal few. I agree, we have more pressing matters at hand to be dealt with at this time. Water, sewage, electing a new Tofino Council: things that we really need to get done first, and the tax burden is already crushing. Perhaps now isn't the right time? I'd have to agree. We cannot put the cart before the horse.

But we don't have to say "NO!". We can say, instead, "Not right now, later" Dream on.

Have YOU considered contacting the multiplex society and asking how you might volunteer to help with the dream?

I don’t think anyone disagrees with the skating rink dream but there are many who don’t want their tax dollars supporting it.

The fiasco is the idea that a few skaters want the rest of the town to pay for it. Those taxpaying voters have spoken loudly that they do not want it.

Additionally what don't people get about living in a Biosphere? You are not supposed to do anything here that is not in harmony with the environment. How an energy hogging artificial blot on the environment of the airport can be called living up to the requirements of a Biosphere is beyond my comprehension.

No matter how you dress it up, a pig in a pink dress is still a pig and the taxpayers of Tofino don't want to pay for the tutu.

I'm calling fraud on this survey. I take from Mayor Osbourne's comments that she may be privy to additional and or other information than what was available in the survey packet. She indicates costs may range from 14 to 18 million. That is not what the survey suggested. She also says the taxapayer will likely have to pick up additional capital costs. The survey fails to identify these costs as potential tax burdens...It is easy to predict that had these addition cost been identified in the survey an even greater number of Tofitians would have voted NO....So were we give half truths and misinformation intentionally so as to rig the result. Wish Mayor Osbourne had spoken up earlier.

Why not double or triple the business license fees for legal short term rentals, and use those funds to support the multiplex? Another good idea might be to enforce pay parking at the beaches and use that revenue to support a pool. Even better yet, how about we eliminate two of the seats at council table, and operate Tofino same as Ucluelet, with only four. Seems to work fine for them, why not here? Do we really need six fools, when four can do the same damage? That would free up even more funding for the multiplex.
Perhaps a "multiplex festival"...... Shouldn't be too difficult to coordinate that, we're already paying for someone to do it.
Money isn't a problem, it's only tax dollars (easily replaced) after all. You just need to use your imagination.
I believe I've seen a few more new trucks driving around town wearing the district logo.
Perhaps mayor and council could discuss these ideas on their way to the next UBCM gala?
And, don't forget, we still have a guy getting paid over $100K annually, to mow the grass along the MUP.

Just eliminate some consultants !

They would need a consultant to determine which consultants to eliminate.

They have a grant program that takes as much to administer as it gives out. Your taxes have paid for theatrical performances, arts in parks, and even the collection of vegetables. All core municipal functions for above average communities with culture but lacking housing or water. Did they ever get that "Poet in Residence" hired? $2500 if I recall. I want my money's worth. I could use a few satirical diddies about now, on councils failures to economize. Let's just start with "Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall" and see where it goes. No one knows where it goes That one, like most council initiatives, doesn't turn out so well. Here's the metaphor...Tofino is going to pieces. Can I have the $2500 now? Ah! save your money. I do it for nothing.
