I went by the meeting to see what this was all about. Telus photos showed that the tower will be the first thing people see coming in and the last thing going out of tofino. Does not really fit in to Tofino's image. Also going to be way to close to residents and new million dollar information center. Should be put away from people and sight. The Telus people did not really have any back up spots. Way to go Telus, propose a tower in a tsunami zone. Not to impressed. To the comment on Nov 15 @ 9:56: put the tower on your roof and everyone will feel better.
There are many places in the world where cell towers are made to look like trees and they are not even noticed when looking straight at them. This is a simple solution for an ugly necessity. I wish the Tsunami towers would have had the same treatment or at least be painted a dark colour instead of white which makes them stand out from far far away.
Tom Craig should give his head a shake !!!!!! Devaluing his property , let alone the few property owners that would be forced to live under this very godly tower for his small gain !!!!! & the health risk ????????? This tower is just to suck as much data out of the 3 resorts as possible !!!! Maybe Nov. 15 @ 9:56 should join Tom in a good head shaking !!
It is interesting how some people are so negative and against everything. These are the same folks who contribute nothing. Thanks Tom for excepting the tower. Telus does not go around willy-nilly installing towers, just where is a need to provide better cell coverage to their residential and business customers. Shocking behavior!
Curious, those who criticise the owner for "devaluing his property" with a communications tower. This property has been the subject of numerous attempts to develop residential lots via rezoning and subdivision. Something Tofino desperately needs. Every time he has been stuffed. Ten years of process and expensive consultants and no results. Who has devalued his property more then the DOT. He still has to pay taxes on all that. I understand this tower would generate a small amount of revenue. As it should.
Now people seem to want his property to be considered as some sort of park for the benefit of others.
I assume there is a need for the tower. I assume it has to go somewhere but not anywhere as it has to serve its purpose. This is some of the least densely occupied property in Tofino. I say Thank You, to the owner if this thing goes ahead. Thank You, for allowing this, on your property, to the benefit of the community.
Botanical b&b????. Are you kidding? No way! The money is a pittance and there is no "social license" to be gained from a cell tower. It was rejected as unproductive by the Botanical Global Initiative long ago. However, railing against the evils of common technologies, that has proven to be much more effective...positionaly... and the speaking fees...wow... much more lucrative. "Er, ah, What we mean to say is, it's better for world peace and climate pacification. All profits...Everything... 100%... less overhead, expenses, legal fees, charitable contributions, vacation pay, severance allowance, performance bonus, retirement and annuity contributions, per diem expenses, life and medical insurance, wellness days and lieu days, statutory requirements, entertainment expense, and jet fuel costs... etc.... go towards these worthy causes and the recycling of obsolete ideology, And the children, the poor crippled children of the world. Naturally, Of course.

And this fellows taxes? Pleeeease that property is getting away with farm status and has for years? What farming? His taxes are nothing compared to what they should be. Looks like another BG example to get as much as you can without paying your fair share, go after others for that. I vote stump dump. Telus can pay the municipality not an individual.
If the District requires Telus to put the tower on land whereby the Municipalitiy earns income, and achieves this by rejecting the private site where Telus wants to put the tower, wouldn't the District be in a conflict of interest in regard to adjudicating the original application.
It should be noted that the DOT has already let Tom subdivide once !!! Which provided residential lots. How many times is the DOT going to let him keep chopping up his prime farm land , He zoned it for farm land to avoid TAXES , now he blames it all on the DOT!

I spoke with Telus guys today. The tower by liquor store is a Microwave tower. The only cell tower is on Barr’s Mountain.

Telus representatives confirmed that Parkbridge wouldn’t allow the tower on their property.
