New Residential Development

A new subdivision is going in on Gibson Street between Shelter and the school.
No word yet on if Vacation Rentals will be permitted in this new neighbourhood. Good spot for families as it is a short walk to the school.

  1. My understanding is it is already zoned, R1. Look it up. Vacation rental uses permitted as per the bylaws

  2. I am not sure about families, rumour has it that the lots will be priced from $350,000 to as much as $500,000.

  3. If it is a strata development the strata bylaws could prohibit nightly rentals. Most families I know need the option of vacation rentals to offset the high cost of living here.

  4. The only reason anyone would buy it is because it is already zoned. Zoned for single family lots. No strata. But expect the prices to be steep. Expect $350,000 to $400,000... There is nothing else on the market, and the development cost are likely to be substantial. Unfortunately it means another non opportunity to your average working family. Well offs, and out of towners might enjoy the view.

All things considered it seems that is what Tofino Council must want........

  10. Why the fuck do the people that work for us make much more money than us? And get benefits that almost all of us don't get!

  13. To retain staff over a longer period of time.People working at the DOT don't get share options or the large bonuses associated with the private sector. They also have to tolerate the whims of council and public abuse. We have seen in the past that once an employee falls out of favour they are fired or pushed out. Ask Sally Mole

  14. Ralph, what world are you living in. Most private sector workers do not get share options or large bonuses. And most don,t get benefit packages, and most don,t get pension plans, indexed or otherwise And most don,t have public sector unions to protect them from either fair or unfair sackings. And when the sacking comes, even if it is unfair, most don't receive some inflated severance packages like the departed Ms Mole or the departed Super of Public Works/Bldg Inspector. They simply get shown the door.....Your working days are too far behind you Ralph and you forget what it was like when even you were the private sector boss... Tough, but fair, but tough.

  15. I am living in the real world.I work every day . In the private sector. If you think it is so great working for the District of Tofino , apply for the festival coordinator job.
I have forgotten nothing. There are many economic opportunities here that go unexploited. Feel free to ask me.I'm in the telephone book as I still have a landline.

  18. I would prefer to have sewer.water and other vital infrastructure run by minimum wage employees with no benefits.Preferably temporary foreign workers with little grasp of the English language.Tax savings will pay for the ice rink.

  19. Kool Aid ! Mmmmmmm !
I realize that the DOT is a shit show but it could be worse.

  20. @8:31 (Ralph)
Paying unmotivated staff high wages doesn't make them more competent and it doesnt make your drinking water any safer.
Your temporary foreign workers comment is BS.
Today your water and other vital infrastructure is ran by English speaking staff who claim to be chased by black panthers and wolves on the evening news.

  21. Ralph is correct, there are many economic opportunities in Tofino. Local gov't is a real growth industry.

  22. One of the pitfalls or being a DOT employee, is having taking all the abuse they receive from all you losers.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Don't worry, they have plenty of protections

  24. 10:35, One of the pitfalls of being a Tofino resident is taking abuse from the DOT staff and council. Difference is the DOT has the upper hand.
