  1. I would encourage advertising on the blog as a way to reach Tofino customers.Since the Vacation Rental debate has escalated the blog has received a record number of page views. The ads go through Google so I have no control over content.

  2. To be fair, it should be realized that the Ecolodge isn't really owned by the mayor. It's actually owned by a male citizen. They're not married, not in the Christian sense.

  3. Ownership or marital status are irrelevant. Complicity is. Having two sets of rules is a no no.

  4. They eat from the same trough and sleep in the same bed. Common law is legally no different than the Christian sense. Complicity is obvious.

We're really happy to be able to promote the new Lighthouse Trail. One of the most commonly asked questions by
lodge guests is "Where can we go for a hike?" and until the development of the Lighthouse Trail, it was hard to suggest
places other than the beach (which
, believe it or not, people are looking for alternatives to!). We hope to see the
Lighthouse Trail extended in time and be as successful for Tofino as the Wild Pacific Trail has been for Ucluelet. An
added bonus about the Lighthouse Trail is that it is easily
the Lighthouse Trail is that it
accessible for Tofino visitors who are not travelling by car, as
you can bike or walk to the head of the trail and hopefully one day a loop of the Lighthouse Trail and the Multi
    -Use Path
will enable visitors to make a 2
-3 hour loop of Tofino's forests,
    beaches, and neighbourhoods.”

  7. from the Tyee:
Osborne grew up on Vancouver Island, and having "geeked out on math" as early as Grade 1, took marine biology at the University of British Columbia and did a master's in resource management at Simon Fraser University before heading to Tofino 16 years ago to work on fisheries issues for the Nuu-chah-Nulth Tribal Council. Twelve years ago she married George Patterson and, among other things, helped him establish the Ecolodge at his Tofino Botanical Gardens, one of the few places in town that pays more than lip service to Clayoquot Sound's rare designation as a UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Reserve.

Osborne did a stint on the board and then on staff at the Raincoast Education Society, a local non-profit where, as a woman scientist, she saw it as her responsibility to inspire young girls to consider science as a career. She was thus inspired herself at age nine when a visitor to her parents' small coastal resort had showed her how to dig clams and make chowder. "I thought it would be good to have a job where you could eat the things you studied."

  12. Additional Context: The Tofino Botanical Gardens and EcoLodge are located about 1.4 km south of downtown Tofino and the Multi-Use Path is the primary way that our lodge guests travel in to the downtown core as well as out to the town's beaches. As an environmentally conscious business, we actively promote walking and bicycle riding over car travel. We rent bicycles to lodge guests, and we also offer a one dollar discount for garden admission to any garden visitor who arrives by bicycle or on foot. The improvements to and maintenance of the MUP are important for our business -- without them, there would not be a safe way to travel into town, especially in the evening at at night. We're also proud to participate in community initiatives such as the "Earth Week MUP Clean Up" in which our staff members join other business staffs and local residents to clean the MUP and keep it looking great. - Josie Osborne, Tofino Botanical Gardens and EcoLodge from:http://docplayer.net/21009167-Resort-municipal-initiative.html

  16. I think all of Clayoquot Sound should be returned to the First Nations peoples.

All others should abandon their homes and leave. All those who are living here and running businesses here are doing so illegally.

Sorry, that includes as well, all those self-righteous among us who condemn any kind of vacation rental.

Essentially, the only legal vacation rentals are the ones that the First Nations people are running.

How far back to you want to go until you discover that the person looking back at you in the mirror is a hypocrite?
