Oh for crying out cornflakes! this makes me so mad I could spit. okay sheeple do not express anger or agitation at your masters even though your livelihood is threatened, your community has been made a joke of by the wasting of tourist dollars on junk in the street, you can park in your own town, and now you're not allowed to build your own house unless it's environmentally perfect in costs 10 times more than the conventional built. meanwhile we are still pooping in the ocean... we all do so theres no point getting mad about that. while were at it lets declare humour and criticism illegal as well. I think this blog should be arrested.
This is scary stuff. I guess what I really need to know is what precipitated this? Was there a specific incident? Are meetings getting so out of control? Are the inmates rioting? I don,t attend many council meetings, unfortunately a general waste of time, but the few I have attended seemed very orderly. So painfully restrained that I politely came away feeling a full discussion, exploration, of the issues, by council, had not taken place.
Seems, the occasional guffaw or snicker is too much for councillors. Can't maintain their focus on their ludicrous politically driven arguments.
I do recall a few meetings in the past where Councillors and Mayor themselves have taken the opportunity of the "Bully Pulpit" to admonish and instruct the public, who where expected to sit retrained and silent, and even one occasion where an individual in the audience was personally identified and verbally attacked while being expected to remain silent. Highly unfair in my opinion. I can also recall just a few years ago, the administrator denying a citizen the opportunity to address council as a petitioner on the agenda about a specific issue under consideration. Even when the request had been made days in advance of the meeting. The administrator didn't agree with the citizen on the matter A sad day for a small community, where for generations every community member was allowed such opportunity to address their council and sadder yet when people take the time and make the effort to contribute.
I am more concerned council is in a bubble and this seeming need to create a "safe space" only reinforces their disconnect from the public. I prefer a little mess about the place, but everything gets aired.
As regards the bylaw itself, if I am ever in attendance at council and I feel the need, if the "chair does not", I will respectfully suggest that individual councillors may need to consider what their "interests" are and whether they are in conflict. If the chair then feels the need to have the RCMP arrive and arrest me for this outrage, so be it.
Which reminds me, several of our august council members have at times in their histories, supported civil disobedience and acts of illegal behaviour, when the cause was to their liking. Sometimes these action precipitate effect new policy. Now, as the new high and mighty, they are apparently intolerant of the smallest expressions of dissatisfaction that might upset their blissful ambience. What does this say. CONTROL is paramount for the powerful. "Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss"
I too have witnessed the issue of others not being allowed to speak and when the speaking on an issue is at the end of the meeting after a decision has been made... well I understand those who wish to speak out during the meeting. Besides waiting until the end of the meeting to bring an issue to council's attention is a bit useless if the decision was made without all the pertinent information. Meetings may have much more decorum if question period was before the meeting started. But that would be too simple.
Welcome to weenie world. it's only logical that anyone going to a Council meeting is going to need to be frisked for harmful words. can you imagine the damage done to the minds of the Council people if anyone were to express disagreement of any kind whatsoever with some of the stupid things the council does? it's terrifying to think of. it might be simpler to just cancel all public attendance at meetings. council will then need to hire a union security force to protect the meetings from someone outside the meeting shouting, playing hopscotch, or talking/ exercising freedom of speech or expression. that's why we live here.
So what about signs and placards that express frustration or heaven forbid.. dissatisfaction? are political cartoons verboten?, lampoons?, talking to your neighbour in a meeting? will bylaw be seizing evidence of conspiring to disagree or express outrage? how about radio broadcasts? will they be forbidden from airing controversial political discussions that may touch upon verbal expressions of anger or outrage?
so far what keeps the mob in the room civil is the idea that if you need something ever from this council you will keep your mouth shut lest they take note of your dissenting opinion, pointed questions, or a negative tone in your voice. this is in regard to anything. it appears to be the muzzle unless the decision is already made taking away something from someone or wasting money or doing stupid things. then no one has anything to lose by being honest. this method of protection of ones playhouse bubble from harsh words strikes some of us as juvenile.
Good questions 9:30 Am. Unfortunately they have already been answered on the CBC The politically Correct Broadcasting Corp. Tofino Council is just trying to catch up with the current trend to censorship.
Next they will be deciding to ban certain words like "he" "she" "hers" "his" to create a safe place from sexual aggresion
I am surprised no one has done anything about it. Censorship in any form is wrong. You may not like my words, you may not like the way I say things but the bottom line I should be able to say anything i want..... without fear.
be safe......wash your hands with poisonous crap. it kills you and the environment. and wash your speech with silly words the utterers erroneously believe will silence anything. fat chance.
Can we really be going here? The absurdity of this is the beginning of the end for our current group. The disconnect with the public is complete. Take "Watergate" as an example. The public was right the mayors, councilors and staff were so completely clueless it cost us Millions. And correcting the situation was not going to happen and it didn't. We were told to be quiet, and there was going to be a tax increase to cover it and lots of over-budget beautification to two blocks in our town. Time for the Namaste Josie mob to step aside and let a real leader run the town.
5:28...... don't bank on her..... next provincial or federal election, she's gonna be outa here faster that you can say "Johns". This "mayor" thing is just for practice.
There are lots of people who could lead Tofino and set a more realistic course. Like, spend less money, and solve a few problems, like maybe water, parking, housing. But who wants to compete with what so many in Tofino seem to want.... Twitter BS 24/7, non stop Selfies, Political Correctness, pride in a bloated corrupt bureaucracy, and groovy new directional signs.
geez - They left out bad smells. like the one that's coming from a tax-exempt charitable foundation. no one is actually going to bring it up at a budget meeting or planning session but gee whiz it sure smells bad. everyone is starting to get a whip of it now. it ranks right up there with the environmental queen tofino dumping raw poop into the otherwise pristine waters of clayoquot sound.
guess there's no point to wonder why, when there is a DOT "mistake" that awards a windfall profit to taxpayers who don't really need my help, there is no recourse. but if there is a water leak on my side of the meter and the bill is $2000 I must pay. so it's okay for my money( taxes) to leak out of the village books and nobody pays or seems to worry about it much at all. never did like monopoly.

This is obviously an attack on your constitutional right to free speech.....but you can still send them all pictures of dogshit.
