  1. I notice that it says that if you have any questions you should contact Bob Schantz. That'll help for sure...... he's an expert on water and everything concerning the delivery and use of the resource. Be sure to contact Bob if you have any questions about municipal water supply. Bob will know the answers to any inquiry.

  2. "Like" thank you! Would be nice if Bob Schantz could answer here or on the thread in the Tofino Post.

  3. Seen the new sign outside of Town? It's before you even get to "Welcome to Tofino." Stage 2 Water Restrictions! Good job! I'd like to see how the water-sucking resorts plan to reduce their water usage. Meanwhile residents are showing with a bucket, and giant two person tubs are being filled in luxury hotel rooms.

  4. Please pee outside. that will save thousands of gallons of water every day. don't be ashamed it's really good fertilizer. it's organic

  5. Ralph - could you please post on your blog about how many cubic meters of water the major resorts use per day or month in the summer when they are running at full capacity - thanks if you have this info

  6. I don't have that specific information. The total water consumption numbers are on the District website.

  7. Stage 2 water restrictions should also include the following: No refills of any hot tubs anywhere in town including all the resorts!

  8. As a general and unspecific idea for calculating resort water use, give each room 200 gallons per day.
80 rooms = 16,000 gallons. I believe this estimate includes restaurant attached but there is still the laundry and possibly hot tubs.
a busy b & b will use about four times the amount of a normal household in tofino which averages 180 gallons per day

  9. while in a quick shower this morning it occurred to me that resorts should be paying 1.6 times higher for the delivery of water instead of me who is not using much at all.
if you take an overall budget for water and then start allocating the cost backwards( which appears to be what was done) and oh my goodness! the resorts are using 1.6 times more water than the houses if you lump the houses and the resorts in a billing class.
so instead of raising the resorts costs, the homeowner is expected to pay for the water the resorts use.
is this right? or am I out to tea?
I can't think of any other reason why this should be the way it is.
its surprising that we haven't given all of our water to Nestlé for $2.50

  11. For the last few years I have used water out of the tap to rinse my sinuses. no big deal.
yesterday I did this as usual to wash dirt and pollen out of there.
when I got done choking and burning and having an allergic reaction to chlorine it occurs to me that the south end of town water, which comes from ahkmosis reservoir, has been heavily chlorinated. is it chlorinated heavily because of algae in the water? or is somebody just a little heavy-handed on the chlorine generator? either way that much chlorine is worrisome.
so I am supposed to pay 1.6 times more for water I don't use but if I did I would be poisoning myself 1.6 times faster than I am now.
don't forget chlorine gas is a weapon of mass destruction
