Yep. Have pretty much given up hope for this town but wanted to vote. Voted only for Greg and Marty. Now looking at a move to Ukee.. Good time to move anyway.
I didn't vote for any candidates who said that "affordable housing" was a priority for them. I don't believe that it's the responsibility of the District to supply people with cheap or free places to live. There's no housing shortage in Tofino. Looks like I got outvoted. Now, for the next four years, we'll all get to watch mayor and council beat this dead horse through the council chambers yet again, wasting valuable time and energy, instead of keeping focus on water, sewer, roads, and the other things that Tofino actually NEEDS.
11:06, couldn't agree more. Governments have long proved that they are nor efficient developers of anything. Leave it to the private sector. If I'm not mistaken the THC spent roughly $400,000 on Braden Smith when he was their guy before working for the DOT and never got so much as a plan or even a shovel in the ground.
I'd like to express my appreciation for all the work and dedication of all the past and current councillors. You can't please everyone all the time. If these whiners and complainers think they can do better, then get out and run for council, go to council meetings and express your ideas. Anonymous bitching, says more about you, than putting forth good ideas with your name attached. Roland Arnet.
We are a family that live and work inTofino, have done for years. It doesn't look like we'll ever save enough to get a down payment on a house here, but a friend of mine just got a house for her family in Ukee. Nice house, 3 bedroom, big lot, great location for under $300,000! She will have to travel to Tuff to work but the savings in shelter, having her own home, and having kids going in to high school were all factors. Just saying for info for the housing committee.
obviously the electorate has given up all hope
