Water Restrictions in Effect

https://tofino.civicweb.net/Documents/DocumentList.aspx?ID=33962

Eight years after the famous water shortage of 2006 we seem to be still having water problems.Millions spent on Campbell St beautification but virtually nothing has changed with the Bay St. part of the water system.Still only one small tank on Barr's Mountain.......
The Sharp Rd plant was built since 2006 and the Ahkmaksis reservoir expanded and a new million gallon tank activated at six mile but still we have problems in the middle of June. There should be a public inquiry into the Tofino Water System.

  1. This seems to be a regular occurrence. infrastructure is ignored. regular inspections of the waterworks pipes and appurtenances doesn't seem to be done. the focus of the Council seems to be bread and circuses. cedar woman is more important than having an adequate supply of water and a real plan to treat the sewage poop and associated household discharges before it's dumped into the pristine waters of backasswards sound.
    Nero fiddles while Rome burns.
skip watering the lawn grow some damn vegetables get real.
I guess it's too late for this council to do anything about sewer & water besides flush the toilet & not worry about it. easy come easy go. water in water out................ until one day someone finds a leak in one of the 2 - 1,000,000 gallon tanks.

  5. lookit!
    Everything is peachy.
    it's all good.
there is no negativity. don't worry about anything that's only being negative.
remember the parable of chicken Little. the sky is not falling.
the plan does not allow for problems.
it's not my problem either. the toilet flushes and more water comes back in. what's wrong with that?
drink the Kool-Aid go back to sleep.

  8. 7:36AM, There has been more than just this council that have been advised by staff, as well as numerous highly paid consultants and engineers as well, as to the sad state of Tofino's infrastructures. The Disneyland mentality comes first! Tofino has a long standing history of being governed by a group of total f#%*@tards. Don't expect any common sense from this council! Screw the locals. This town belongs to the tourists not you!

  9. I here there's no water restrictions in Ukee. why can't this council give us a decent water system not to mention sewage treatment. Dysfunctional waste of good votes IMHO. Don't vote for these clowns in fall.

  12. The problem with tourism is that every tourist that stays into tofino consumes water. and they expect to be able to consume as much water as they feel like for bathing cooking hot tubbing toilets etc.
if theres not adequate water the tourists will not come here. That is a fact. there are still people who won't come here because in 2006 there was a water crisis.
so the spectacular landscaping of Campbell St., may make it look like there's order and respectability about this place and people who like order and respectability will feel comfortable and stay here... except there's the very shaky situation of water.
both items of infrastructure water and sewer need serious upgrading attention repair maintenance care and awareness now.
ignoring these items and putting millions into changing the appearance is not very smart. especially if it in fact attracts any more tourists than those that would come here anyway and if all those tourists can't take a bath sometime soon.
as we all know it doesn't do any good to tell a person they are getting flat tire. they have to drive away and discover for themselves why the wheel goes thump thump thump.
I can tell you what this councils solution to a leaking water tank will be: erect an impenetrable fence so no one will be able to get close enough to a water tank to see that it's leaking.

  13. Just in time to distract everyone from anything important allegedly the district council is intent upon banning franchise operations.
this may or may not be true but I want to make something clear that certainly isn't to the people who promulgate stupid things without doing any background investigation.
first and foremost there is not enough business in this community to support any of the major franchises. many have looked into the demographics of tofino and the possibilities of opening one of the major franchises that seem to strike terror into the hearts and minds of topatients.
one of the criteria for opening a major franchise op is the requirement for the business to be open no less than 363 days per year or you lose the franchise.
this rule alone serves to deter any potential franchise operator from doing anything here.
    end of story.

  14. What the hell is 12.35 going on about?
Tilitzky and crew "banned" franchises years ago....silly exercise that it was....
    Esso=Franchise
    Co-op=Franchise
    Shelter (Canoe Club)=Franchise
    Tin Wis (Best Western)=Franchise
    Etc., etc., etc....

    Come on silly person(s)?....

  15. Coop is not a franchise. Its a... coop. Durrrrrrr. Owned by the members and overseen by a democratically voted board of directors.

  16. Back to the infrastructure ! I would assume that when we upgraded the road we are also upgrading the utilities that lie beneath the new pavement ? If not why not ? I believe that it is standard practice .If not and the water or sewer lines leak we have to pay to rip it all up and redo it again . Water main I am told have only a 30 to 50 year life cycle depending on the material that they are made from and most of our are made from aspestos cement . As for the leaky reservoir doesn't the reservoir get inspected and cleaned on a regular cycle ? I see in other municipal utilities that they do an annual reservoir inspection and cleaning .So if we where doing this inspection we should have a reports on it condition and the estimated years of life left . Where are those inspection report? I don't believe this leak in the reservoir would just pop up without some warming well before it ever started to leek .
