I get a couple of things out of this which are the weeping cedar woman doesn't represent local arts and culture if it's a haida image to be erected in nuchalnuth territory. in this regard it represents ignorance of local culture unless this councils definition of local culture is eco-business. local arts could possibly mean local artists. here again this ignores local artists who live and work here. the other thing I get out of this is that before the Council meeting is convened this type of issue is traditionally approached with an open mind. but... it's very clear to anybody watching the chronology leading up to Council meeting of the 11th that (participating in the acquisition) was already agreed upon by council and Mayor, & the special interest lobby group was already rejoicing and thanking the mayor. now somebody tell me, if I didn't know this and I went to a Council meeting expecting fairness and to be heard as delegation objecting to the proposed acquisition, why the Council meeting of the 11th was not a complete farce and insult to the electorate? furthermore individuals like Ralph and Dorothy who exhort us objectors to show up at Council meetings to voice our opinions to council mean well but as we are seeing the process is a joke. the electorate who believe the politicians don't lie and everything is fair are living in Lala land.
The Delegation against the Weeper obviously did their research and are fed-up with this possible Corruption. It should not be hard for a "Technology Guy" like "van Barneveld" (a Registered Apple iOS & Google Android Developer) to prove in Court how a Government Official Swindles with Her Facebook accounts !
Look at how prepared they are, they have taken screenshots of stuff that has all been deleted in front of your eyes...(some of it on Facebook has been Unhidden of-course !) If the rumors are true, there is more to come. You would almost think that these guys have experience with "Being Screwed" in this town ?
Also, You can see the Web pages that they have open on their iPad on all these photos above. The photo with the Google results has the "Community Charter" Website Open. Power to the People !
Just like Nixon...... erasing the tapes. "I'm not a crook!" The Weeping Cedar Woman no longer represents the community spirit that stopped the logging of Meares Island. Now, instead, it represents government corruption and manipulation of a political system. I originally was neutral in my feelings about whether or not it should be returned to Tofino, but after seeing the actions of the past month..... please keep that thing as far away from me as possible. It doesn't represent anything that I want to be a part of.
It's too bad that council has shown so much interest in a "green" statue that says "hooray for our side" while ignoring the real environmental issue of raw sewage.
I find it interesting that the person who is most vocal about the statue being placed in Anchor Park claiming it may disturb his viewscape is the same person who took to placing a decrepit old bicycle advertising his business on that same park land. It had a flower basket. Did that make it right? Did I go to council and protest the disturbance of MY viewscape? I think under the circumstances and having behaved that way the person has no right to say anything more. It is up to the town and council to decide at this point and the major complainer should butt right out of the decision making process. Might be helpful to keep the rusting advertising bike off public land too flowers or no flowers. Just my peanut gallery commentary.
The mayor was doing pretty good until she threw her support behind the Weeping Cedar Woman. She wasn't here in those times and underestimates the silent majority that doesn't embrace the Green Agenda.Of course if nobody runs against her it doesn't matter . I guess we'll burn that bridge when we get there.
It would be nice if this open and transparent council would hold a Town Hall meeting to clear the air regarding the Weeping Cedar Woman. It wouldn't cost the taxpayer much and would clarify a lot of things.
@9:52 AM Yes You are Correct. Please write Your Mayor and Council that You want a "Bicycle Free" downtown Tofino. Also maintained flowers baskets should be forbidden as it makes the rest of the town look like Sh_t.
@9:52 you are right. Please get council to stop leaving crudely painted bicycles all over town as part of the bike share program . No helmets were provided as is required by law . How much did this advertising for green council cost the taxpayer ?
@9:52 That Vintage Bicycle with Flowers is not Selling anything to anyone. It makes Visitors Aware that there is an "Environmental Friendly Travel Guide", instead of using all the Paper Maps, Posters, Magazines, FOCS Newsletters and Brochures.
I see it as a Positive Way of Educating Locals and Visitors, that We need to take care of the Environment !
for all the vainglorious rhetoric surrounding Cedar woman let's be perfectly clear. the best it can represent is confusion. moral and ethical. just what we need more of. cedar woman also represents some pretty negative stuff: i.e. pitting normal working-class people against idealists and people who didn't live here or had to make a living here, criminal acts such as arson, trespass, theft, & financial loss for some innocent families, concurrently with the oppression of most of the people of tofino right now with the reminder of this stuff. I'm hearing people boasting of the Cedar woman coming home, she's on her way. what type of nonsense is this? seems there's a fairytale existence out there in the adult world. those of us from a Christian background are expected to pay for and accept that worshipping wooden images is normal? if a group of deranged individuals wants to buy a golden calf and put it on their own property that's their business but not on my nickel. send in the clowns.
Hey guys lighten up! this is a win-win situation. it's obvious we can pick the lowest hanging fruit and everybody will be happy. here's how: this will be Cedar we peeing woman. it can go right across from the pharmacy between the fire hall and the public washrooms. it represents the Cedar woman we peeing who cant go to the bathroom because it's wrecking clayoquot sound. she cant go until clayoquot sound is fixed so she cries becasue she is wooden and cant get across the street to get some diuretics from the pharmacy. she also represents the triumph of arson over civilized behavior standing tall next to the firehall. hey hey watch what you say you might pay. burning down the house. ha ha. Cedar woman is also laughing her ass off in tears at the dupes who think they're supporting something else. ha ha
10:24 should just admit that the bike was advertising his business on public property and instead of being a total pita in this town he should relax and go with the flow. He has no right to comment on this topic at all having abused the public with his illegal advertising. The town can decide on this statue or not without his bullying behavior. If it wasn't his not wanting a statue to detract from his illegal bicycle billboard, there would be no "weepergate"as Ralph describes it. Instead there would be rational discussion of the matter. Please note I have not stated I want or don't want the statue.
In braiden smiths report of September 2010 pertaining to the Cedar woman proposed acquisition not only does he bring up a lot of unknowns and questions he clearly states at the end of it that without an arts procurement policy in place anything to do with buying stuff like that is premature. does anybody on council get it? Mr. Smith recommended the proper procedure. he also questions the relevance of the piece to any plan that's in place. so....... no plan no policy and yet this council wastes more time and more money on foolhardy behavior. cheating lying and conniving. public-service at its finest.
Weepergate started with a posting on the District website that was there for all to see . Many readers noticed the endorsement of the weeper on Facebook.I'm not on Facebook but many readers sent screen shots.
We already heard that Eileen Floody made similar statements on the Mayor Osborne's "Personal Facebook Page" and on the "Westerly News Facebook page". I Just found this statement on the "Godfrey Stephens Weeping Cedar Woman Facebook page" (posted on February 9th... That's 2 days before the Feb.11 Council Meeting !)
"If you'd like to see Weeping Cedar Woman return to Tofino, the District of Tofino is accepting donations to the fund. Tax receipts will be provided!" -Eileen Floody
@9:19 Please write to Mayor and Council that they should NOT Park their "Vehicles with Company Advertisement" on Public Property during a Council Meeting.
@9:19 Wanna talk about "illegal Advertising"..You should look at "Government Officials" Social Media pages. Facebook, Twitter etc... There's a constant Shameless Promotion of their "Friends" Businesses....... but hey, you are probably one of them.
Copy/Paste from Westerly News Facebook page............."Eileen Floody The poll for Weeping Cedar Woman in the February 5 issue doesn't seem to be online. Probably a good thing as the questions don't reflect the plan. The goal is to raise funds to bring her home, and her home is in Tofino, preferably within view of Meares Island, as her creation was in response to the proposed logging of the Island in 1984. Donations are being accepted at the District of Tofino, for which donors will receive a tax receipt." Like · · February 9 at 11:33am
It's interesting to note that Ms Floody ran in the last election, was defeated, yet still speaks (before a council vote on the matter) as to the District's involvement in the project.
9:43 There may be many illegal signs around this town but they are located on the business' property. It doesn't change the fact of the major complainer himself locating his personal sign for his personal business on public land and the park in question for the location of the statue under debate. He cannot have any say in the discussion after having abused the public property of Tofino.
@9:19am I hope They hire a good Lawyer to defend their Corruption and Civil Disobedience as arguing about some Hippies flower bicycle isn't gonna fly in Court !
