Embarrassing. HOW does this represent this town? Why not use a whale, bear, surfer, something better? Was there a sale on Anne of Green Gables costumes and TT was over budget?
She's a cute female surfer, cool! Given the high number of female surfers (and I am one!) in this town compared to other surfing spots, she's a great representative for Tofino.

Mascots are fun. Everyone loves a hug from a sweaty stranger that can barely see out of their big bobble head. I'd honk if I saw her downtown.
Red hair, fine. But why red hair in braids? Wendy's, Anne of Green Gables and Pippee Longstocking already seem to have made good use of that image. And I guess each of those franchises have prospered though. So I guess, say what we will, Astrid Lindgren would be proud.
Its too bad this organization lacks community relations or stakeholder involvement in their business/ marketing plan. I think they could have achieved a mascot that better represented the community had they gone to the people to ask them what or who they would like to see as a mascot. I am also curious to hear from Tourism Tofino what the mascot will be used for? What are they planning to achieve with Sandy? Will she have her own Facebook page like the Van? I thought Chester Van was the mascot? Why spend so much time and energy on mascots and not on marketing our town to increase our revenues? It is also a disappointment that they revealed Sandy out of the community in Port Alberni and not to the stakeholders and the people of Tofino first. Now they have launched this red headed surfer girl into cyberspace and people are making jokes and are not impressed. This could have been avoided if they had launched her here and gave a background and listed the objectives of Sandy. I would like to see Tourism Tofino consider hiring a marketing professional to help guide this organization to make better choices, create goals and assist in improving tourism in our community.
I actually thought the VW van worked as a mascot.Back in the 70s there was actually a VW dealer in Tofino.Now that all vehicles are politically incorrect carbon spewing monsters I guess it became obsolete.
There must be something in the Tofino air that makes people loose their minds and turns them into lunetics. Common sense and intelligence is avoided at all cost! What were they smoking when they came up with this ludicrous idea? $4000 for a Pipi Longstocking costume with a fan for ventilation! Most people would think this must be an April Fool's joke!
