  1. I heard about her being groomed for the position over two months ago. This was all in the works before Sally got fired.

I think some transparency is in order.

    Councillors...well what do you say?

  3. Well, that certainly comes as a surprise ! Why did they bother posting the job ?

  4. Out with the old, in with the new. Only Sally wasn't that old, and April ain't that new.. Did Sally apply for that job?

  5. No surprise really. If she's getting her masters certificate in June, I bet this has been in the works for a while. I hope this cost has been factored into the so called cost savings restructuring... Pretty much think this position was set up for her. Oh Tofino, what next for us?

  6. Like most government institutions the DOT is now corrupt. Lies and secrecy are conveniently masked by fake images designed to misdirect public attention.

You can use all the fancy jargon like, corporate restructuring, resort municipality initiative etc, to woo the people, and use all the latest buzz words to tell the public what a good job you're doing, but if you don't have the ONE fundamental element called trustworthiness ...then you've got nothing. Repeat...nothing.

Our small municipal government is not a headless animal whereby no one can be expected to be held accountable in the cases where the public is being deceived. At the end of the day, it all boils down to what each individual must face before they face anyone else. Their own self. Choices and decisions they make, choices and decisions that they will have to live with.

There are some stinky things going on in a few people's minds down at the DOT. On any given day, walking into the DOT office, or when attending a public meeting you will be hard pressed not to spot a fearful or guilty face.

You can boast all about how clear the glass in the window is,(transparency) but if you have whitewashed it, you and no one else is going to be able to see through it.

Hoping to restore public trust by offering a free lunch down at the legion just don't cut it.

  7. This is an insane job. If anyone can rock it April will. Does this mean Laura is the only one doing rec stuff now?

  8. Sometimes council has to make an unpopular decision for the best interest of the town to be served. If the public were aware of the situation they would understand.April has vast experience managing large budgets and is a perfect fit for this job.Let's get over the whole Sally thing and move forward in a positive manner.

  9. This only leaves one person at Parks and Rec....ooops...I mean the former Parks and Rec as if there were still Parks and Rec, Sally would still have her job.

  10. 12:15, yes, I do believe Sally applied fo the job. 10:38, I don't believe April has vast experiences with managing budgets. That was a managers job (Sally).

  11. Vast experiences? Like? This is hilarious. Nothing against April but come on guys who couldn't have seen this coming.

  13. Please explain why Parks & Rec is so sacred!
Is it just a coincidence that as soon as staff is reduced from 3 to 1 that the gym is now open. I really don't know. Just asking.

I was told, at the Community open house last year, the day before she - Sally - was fired, that we she had negotiated gym time, that it would be sorted out the following week... I just wanted to play hockey! Parks and Rec is sacred because Sally is goddess - she has a coffe cup that says so!

  15. anyone know what the parks and rec budget is ? I'd think we should be able to help keep the gym open for public use. you'd think ? Most communities have rec facility or pool or arena or some structure don't they ?

  16. We should have a statue built for Sally. One that represents the many residents that have left Tofino for greener pastures. She could be pointing East. We need progressive development and management not pet projects and borrowed initiatives.

  17. The School is for the children first. If the community wants in they/we should have to pay for it. This sense of entitlement needs to be explained....Ralph I know we've beaten this horse before but what responsibility does Wick have to the community in regards to access to the gym and fields? Is it just a gift of good nature or was the school property given to the school district for a good price....there fore there is a source for entitlement.....I'm not saying we don't need access but if it's such a big deal why not build our own? and if we are going to spend the money to build our own then could we not just invest in the Wick school property ie outdoor bathrooms, expanded gym, designated community rooms.

  18. 9:41, The community and the rest of the province for that matter already pays for it. The taxpayers! Us! It also has "COMMUNITY SCHOOL" funding, money for "COMMUNITY" use! It is not a private school!!
