While Tofino Mayor and Council moved at lightning speed to axe Sally Mole due to "Restructuring" it seems there's no restructuring taking place at all.Imagine my surprise when I couldn't find "Resort Services" on the District of Tofino website or on this poster. No,it's Parks and Rec just like before Sally was terminated !!!
Please contact your local councilors and ask them what happened to Restructuring or Corporate Re-alignment or whatever they called it............
It's all bullshit ! Council didn't have a clue what they were voting on.
ReplyDeleteI hope Sally sues them personally.
The grand plan without a plan! 3 more weeks and the genius of the plan runs to Winnepeg with his tail between his legs. Not soon enough. Council should send him packing without notice.
ReplyDeleteRalph,
ReplyDeleteYou are correct in pointing out yet another hypocrisy of the council. At best this could be interpreted as the most inefficient and clueless bunch who don't know how to implement a business plan - or indeed what one is. At worst, it may be a demonstration of their absolute ineptitude of not even having the brains to cover their tracks. Perhaps worse again, it may be a display of their callous arrogance not even having to acknowledge that this whole thing was a ruse from the start and not fearing any consequence - This last one may prove a poor strategic move methinks. Either way, neither is a flattering demonstration of their leadership abilities. It appears highly likely that there was no plan, at least no plan the likes of which were publicly revealed resulting in the very public termination of Mrs Mole. The modis operandi seems quite clear. Announce departure, settle old scores, leave. It's not rocket science.

ReplyDeleteMr. Goody two shoes announced recently that the cost of the election will be about half of one percent of our annual tax revenue. Never mind that, he cost us over FIVE percent per year. For what???
Shitty value IMHO.
Of course nothing's been implemented! They've fired the person who implemented shit!
ReplyDeleteNow there's only Limplimenting...
ok class.....what is .o05% of the gross tax revenue of tofino?
ReplyDeletehint: use the budget numbers from 2005
forget it. if its $1,000,000.=$5,000.
ok now lets figure out what percentage of GTR is spent on legal fees to support obstination(a rocklike volcanic ass)?
use
in which shituation have we gotten good value?
neither one of course;
one was an option and the other was following the law.
so what?
if we all had an opinion and the opinion reflected what the majority of the voters actually believed their elected reps. believed as reflective of the beaming faces of all of us, these things might not happen.
opinions are where laws were invented, changes too.
were all won.
oooops, looks kinda like constructive dismissal.
ReplyDeleteThis Restructuring Corporate Agenda Re-Alignment fooled council but not the people. It's all lies to settle an old score. Those kids are old enough to vote now.
ReplyDeleteThey won't release any info on restructuring until they've settled with Sally because the new resort services job is too similar to what she is already doing that it would be a lawsuit. They want to avoid that lawsuit, settle with her, gag her, THEN we'll get to see what the "restructuring" looks like. I'm really pissed at the way Sally has been treated, restructure away, but give a decent, honest and passionate long term employee a chance to hold her head up, and give us a say in any restructuring. Says a lot about how this town feels about community. Moving to Ukee with my family where housing is affordable and they have a pretty fantastic community centre (and we can't even get into the gym...) Eliminate the rec department and replace it with a resort services department? Hello Whistler - good bye Tofino.
ReplyDeleteThere a winter paddling club. Sweet.
ReplyDeleteI guess I was quite naive to think that you cannot legally fire an employee after 20 years of dedicated service without notice and without reason. Are there no decent labour laws that prohibit this atrocious behavior by an employer?
ReplyDeleteYup I agree WELCOME TO WHISTER BY THE SEA!
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh at the comparisons to Whistler. The must be made by those that have never been there.
ReplyDeleteWhistler is an amazing place. It has more recreational "assets", such as a beautiful lake, world class golf course, trails abound, and of course some of the best mountain terrain in North America.
This little one horse town is just lucky to still be in business.
Please don't compare Tofino to Whistler. It just does not compare. With the weak leadership and pathetic approach to growth it never will.

ReplyDeletethis blog is apparently a one way street. It would be helpful for the community if you sometimes tried to look at both sides of a story so we can find middle ground. Otherwise we are left with a slanted representation or even worse, an agenda of what appears to be dissent which satisfies a personal grudge or to a narcissistic attitude.
ReplyDeleteSo what's the other side of the story ? Comments make the blog an information highway !!

ReplyDeleteone of the reasons this blog is here is because there is no other side of the story coming out of the hourglass, the mayor, or the council members.
the other side of the story is often the disappointing results that we are presented with.
this is a good reason to consider direct democracy options.
it seems like representative democracy maybe used to work when most of the electorate were uninformed - until now.
not only can we all know the same stuff quickly but most of us do.....and have strong feelings about it.
"the ball is in Sally's court...it wasn't performance or monetary... " said the disgraced mayor. The other side of the story remains shrouded in "in-camera " mystery. Many on council however are speaking privately in breach of "in-camera" rules. They are contradicting what the mayor said at the meeting. They allude to performance and money. This whole episode is shameful and I hope the new mayor will have a good look at what transpired.
ReplyDeletePlease remember that guest articles are welcome. On this or any other topic. The only rule is you must provide your name and contact info.
ReplyDeletep.s. nor did we elect the CAO.
ReplyDeletethe people we elected did not remain the thoughtful and moral conversationalists they were before being inducted into the hourglass inner sanctum.
as elected representatives this would seem like false advertising or mis-representation.
remember transparency? open government?
whatever the de facto ethics of this political method may be, dishonesty and secrecy seem to be the most apparent.
this is not to demean the good intentions of people inspired to serve in public office as their contribution to organized society.
as an ideal this is good.
i think the electorate doesnt have un-realistic ideals about kindness decency respect truth fairness and openness being the standard of conduct and behaviour most of the time for mayor and council and the hourglass.
the results of what has happened lately seem to indicate representative democracy doesnt work like this.
if no one likes it reasonable alternatives may be required.
if it doesnt change something else will.

ReplyDeleteIf you love whistler move there. It was amazing before the village and Blackcomb. Now its greed motivated developers sucking the life out of a once majestic mountain. When you start calling the natural landscape assets its clear what your motivations/morals are. Go back to where-ever you came from because this town does not need to have its assets managed by the likes of developers.
We just got a very expensive "Mayor" who wanted to pad his resume. Josie will be a breath of fresh air.
As for Sally...constructive dismissal plus 20 years service equals the biggest payout this town has seen for such a blunder.
Council why did this happen and why have you not taken the keys from Braden. Normal managerial procedure would be that such "decisions" are taken from the administrator when notice is given in order to prevent exit door politics from taking place.
12:14. I don't recall saying I love Whistler. I did say, however, that there is just no comparison to be made.
ReplyDeleteWhistler realized it needed affordable housing so they created it. Tofino spent somewhere around a half million and didn't.
Whistler saw that they needed a trail network that connected the village so they built it. You walk it in the summer and you ski it in the winter. Awesome.
Whistler saw that it was creating a serious tax stream for the Province and realized it should get a share. Tofino should thank Whistler for thinking up the idea in the first place .
They just don't compare.
What happened to Parks and Recreation? Sally is gone and you can already feel it! Lots of scheduling issues in the Winter Parks & Rec program.
ReplyDeleteI know council reads this blog. YOU HAVE SCREWED UP! Make it right and give Sally her job back.
any updates on a new CAO ralph? Isn't the old one on his way out the door in two weeks? don't get me wrong, having no CAO would be better than living with THAT CAO, but...?
