Sure we fired Sally but have a free lunch and forget about it.Not likely.Blatant misuse of tax dollars for partisan purposes. The Municipal Auditor can't get here soon enough.
There is no free lunch. The municipality has to pay for someone to make the sandwiches and muffins or whatever. Then the legion rental has to be paid on top.
More like, let us take you out to lunch and you pay.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Winnipeg shows up with an empty plate and a doggy bag.
This old schmooze tactic of enticing people to come on down, free balloons and hot dogs for the kids won't work". Too much damage done. The taxpaying public have been betrayed. The thrill is gone.
sorry folks the council wont be at this deal. duncan mcmaster will be though. the planner yes and juliet, a planner, both working on the writing of the review of the OCP.(a process reuired by law) the OCP monitoring and implementation committee will be there to listen to questions and advise where yhey can. there will be various stations displaying some aspects of the "revised" OCP in the form of individual policy documents. theres 6 of these documents(sections of the OCP) of which all should be read and commented in writing about. the committee is part of the process to make sure the publics comments are duly noted and if ideas coming out of the comments havent been taken into account, the documents need to be modified. this is the public process part. otherwise the committee has no voice in altering the course of events. its an oversight committee. you dont have to eat lunch. if you dont go you wont know. if you dont comment dont gripe that youre views(reasonable of course)wernt heard. there are many issues that affect our/your future: development, land use, density, tourism, parks and rec. islands, servicing, land management, affordable housing among others worth knowing about.
8:56 if your views are written as a comment about a document they will be read. if the comments add something that needs to be considered or is left out and its reasonable it may well mean alterations. this would be discussed at the next meeting of the committee. rants arent going to change much. the committee is only about the OCP review process and nothing else including the sally issue. the comments are solicited only for documents at issue. the committee is composed of unpaid community volunteers.
well stated 9:47 -- enough of the rants - bitching - negativity - put downs - nonsensical tirades - time to move ahead - if you have something constructive to put forth that will help Tofino become a better community then do it
While many are disenchanted with recent decisions it is still imperative that we deal with the sewer and water issues. These should be addressed along with the projected growth rate in the OCP.Make your views known in a written submission. We have to consider these issues when dealing with density and potential growth in the tourism sector.
and the open house forum at the legion sat. is where your comments must be presented to be considered. that means writing them on a big sheet of paper provided with red dots too. anonymously. you could submit comments written separately if they are numerous or lengthy.
lets look at the water issue as it relates to the tourism master plan and resort services direction as well as any future residential growth. back to the early nineties: tourism BC would show up here at chamber of commerce meetings and council things to tell us we were mentally deficient for not using all the money we could get to promote and expand tourism to its fullest. that was the guys job. sell BC. at the time someone had to tell the guy tofino didnt have enough available water to service a major surge in tourism. his attitude was that it wasnt his problem. fast forward to 2005 when the fiasco of asleep-at---the-water-wheel occurred. thats what can happen when too many people are using water without paying any attention to its limits. its not just tourists either. if we look at the goal of the RMI(resort money) initiative of doubling tourism by 2016 since 2008, and that would seem to include tofino, with its rough average of 1,000,000 visitors per year, can anyone tell me how we are intending to double the water supply available between now and then? meanwhile we are required to create, and pay for, a sewage treatment system which probably may not take into account doubling the capacity for just tofino as well as building in capacity to treat esowista and the parks effluent by 2016. the capacity to treat sewage effectively is directly dependent upon how much water goes into it (duh!) its worth asking questions like this because a plan is about what to do. a disaster is not knowing whats going to happen if you do what is planned.
also since the early nineties the chamber of commerce has been yelling about increasing tourism in the shoulders seasons. this is ok. a good idea. so far we have created an assortment of festival events, feest!, storm watching, whale fest, beerfest, etc. all tremendous successes but not things that are a major draw for thousands of international globetrotters. from the same time the concept of cultural tourism was introduced. it has largely been ignored for some reason. is this one of a directions of the tourism master plan? an example of cultural tourism: the king tut show in seattle. that draws a lot of people, especially from bc. it wouldnt matter where a king tut show was held. people would go there to see it. its up to the district to understand this concept. or carry on with a box of band-aids and aspirins.
