  1. this is just a comment/question altho not just about the budget items.
has it occurred to anyone else that in our mad rush to grab RMI money and be a resort municipality that we are throwing away the community of the people who live here?
there needs to be a balance struck between the 2.
so far the bogus restructuring job of throwing away a good person in favor of a resort services dept reminds me of a maoist purge.

  2. ah yes, in the new law & odor dystopia of the tofino resort municipality dancing is not allowed, nor gatherings for the purposes of enjoyment, nor surfing without a lifejacket, walking without protective clothing, public displays of affection will get you a fine, and political dissenters........we know what will happen to them.
and you will need a permit to do anything or go anywhere.

  3. Just a question, why is the training budget for council $680,000 or am I reading that wrong?

  4. I'm getting tired of people beating this poor horse over the head. Granted Sally is a great and wonderful person I suspect she was under qualified to manage a budget like what Parks and Rec is responsible for. Maybe this in fact was the issue, Parks and Rec needed to be scaled back so as to focus more on community specific activities and not pet projects. We have plenty of great locals who have spearheaded some of these projects, do we need to continue to spend money on something that may not be neccesesary. Besides this will one less high ranking executive to stall our decision making. Let council take on some of that responsibility ( after they listen but not obey the cao

. Without RMI funding this town would not be able to look forward and keep respectfully hosting the many hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit and poor money into our community. It doesn't matter if you work of fish farms, logging, construction or tourism without these tourists we love to hate this town would have no money to repair anything or create more facilities for families. How wonderful is it that people travel from the other side o the planet just to hang out in our back yard because they appreciate the nature.

Yes this lack of transparency and poor oversight of municipal funds is terribly frustrating but I don't think there is any stupid cool aid, rather an unsettling reality when one goes from innocent public service to paid public service. This is not a Tofino problem. Idle No More I believe is frustrated in a similar matter as does the occupy movement.

Some of you may call me a left wing nut job but David Susuki explained it very well. If we want things to change start with yourself, your family , your friends and your community first. Then take over the world.

If we are goin to vote into council long standing residents then we are guaranteed that those people are going to want to see Tofino prosper not collapse.

  5. Seems you do obey the CAO. Do your own thinking !

  6. 9:07 You must be mistaken as Mayor Schmunk clearly stated with all council present that Ms. Mole's dismissal wasn't about performance or monetary issues.

  7. I was not saying that Sally was not doing what she was supposed to be doing or that they released her to save the annual salary. I was saying that her position became counter productive. I would have loved to jaw seen her continue with the municipality I another way but that did my happen. This is just a thought from someone with very little knowledge of the affairs behind closed doors. My only source of info is from the Internet. And a bit of gossip!

  8. is it just me ? I'm trying to make sense out of the report you posted Ralph. Why can't I find anything more up to date than the 2005 audited financial statement and the 2005 -09 5 year financial plan ? had hoped to see a summary of our finances for the past year somewhere .....

  9. 10:29 you mean you thought you could see a financial statement?

  10. Shocking!!
I just can't believe there's so much dishonesty, secrecy, cover-ups, and corruption in this world.
It's getting to the point where you simply can't trust anyone any more.

  11. 4:00 yes I had hoped to see something recent that I could make sense of. However if this is the latest I am rather shocked. There seems to be enough staff at the D of T office to provide taxpayers with better information than this. Am I the only one who believes taxpayers should be given clear summaries or briefs of how much money comes in, how much goes out and where? Ralph I didn't find the report you posted of much use.

  12. Sorry that's all I was able to find on the DOT website. There could be a more concise report but the site is a bit hard to navigate.

  13. 9:07 you wrote

    Then you wrote

"I was not saying that Sally was not doing what she was supposed to be doing or that they released her to save the annual salary. I was saying that her position became counter productive."

So calling her under-qualified was not to say that she is not capable of doing her job, which is what she is supposed to be doing?

Questioning wether we needed to continue spending money on her is not to say that she was let go to save the annual salary?

Ok. So maybe you woud like to present a third version of what it is that you are saying.

Like Ralph said she was not let go for either of the above reasons. It was just due to restructuring...which not one councillor can tell you what the heck that means.

  14. Yes, this is restructuring to ensure proper managemnt of municipal funds. Nothing personal. Nothing related to job performance, just related to the fact that maybe those funds are better spent else where which happens to be in a similar but different position within the district that requires a higher level of specialized traing and experience than the existing parks and rec director requirements. At least that is my interpretation o what we are being told

  15. Sounds like a newbie working to justify DOT's decision. Mentions of David Suzuki? Hmmmmmm... I hope it isn't who I think it is...

  16. Give me a break. I do not work for the municipality and am not on council. You just couldn't pass up an oportunity to throw some mud. Good job mr(mrs/ms) community, what would we do without the negative, counter productive, polarizing jiberish that is way too often regurgitated out of the mouth of this questionable anonymous majority.....don't get me wrong Ralph, this blog has value but it is disgusting how easy and common it is for people who may or may not have a long term vested interest in our community to cause so much tension by using such language.
