When Yellowknife got rid of Long they did it in a clear and transparent manner.Tofino council could learn from this.No hiding behind corporate double-speak language. The mayor of Yellowknife had no problem explaining what happened.
I truly hope the DOT thinks about this article when hiring a new CAO. Lets get away from the hourglass and get back to how it used to be. It was much more transparent before the hourglass concept was introduced by Mr. Long.
Studies have identified a number of key steps in coercive persuasion:]
1 People are put in physically or emotionally distressing situations; 2 Their problems are reduced to one simple explanation, which is repeatedly emphasized; 3 They receive what seems to be unconditional love, acceptance, and attention from a charismatic leader or group; 4 They get a new identity based on the group; 5 They are subject to entrapment (isolation from friends, relatives and the mainstream culture) and their access to information is severely controlled. sound familiar ??
Sounds like some people need to go back to the city where slander and anonymous attacks are forgotten in the shuffle. Here, in this small town, this much negativity is harmful to progress
Now that is strong leadership by Mayor and Council. It seems they have a strong grasp of the purpose for a Local Government.
I could never understand why the previous Council and Mayor never could see what so many could. This is difference between strong leadership and weak.
This is not to speak personally about the last Councillors and Mayor. I am sure they are great people but they, as a group, were weak leaders.
The worst part of it all is that it just takes one to stand up and say "no, we won't be led around by the nose.
It seems unbelievable that Sally was dealt with the way she was. This treatment relects poorly on the CAO and reveals to all that he just does not have leadership qualities. I say this based on how he treated a member of his team, Sally, and the state in which his remaining team is in.
Yes 12:58 except the "charisma" part. I would say that a bully could work in place of a charismatic person as well. Only a bully is obvious and should be easily detected.
12:58 bang on. this is what happens to the council when they are put in the hourglass. if corporate restructuring wants to improve the ability to govern the people of tofino, please remove the hourglass from the equation. its the opposite of transparency and accountability. the community of tofino isnt the microsoft corporation. this hourglass mularkey was brought to us by the previous CAO. his mandate ended when this blog exposed the problem of paying yourself around $12,000. of our money to attend something he was already being paid for. shut up and drink the kool-aid fools. the hourglass is good for you. do as youre told. dont think. dont believe anything you read here. its lies, rumors, inuendos(italian suppositories), gossip, mis-information, & poisonous thoughts.
1:11 you are delusional. If the dismissal of the Parks and Rec director is progress I want no part of it .Cut back on your Coolaid consumption or prozac or whatever you are on .
1:11 progress? really? theres 2 things about this idea that ARE harmful. 1. the delusion that progress of any kind is good. 2. the results of this type of so called progress here are harmful. entertain the bizarre apolitical idea that the benefit of dictatorshits is that there is no dissent? dissenters are kilt. now thats progress!
The judge in the case referred to Long's defence as "cleverly worded,"
Draw your own conclusions people. If it walks like a snake-oil salesman, and talks like a snake-oil salesman, it must be a snake-oil salesman.
We've had so many in the past few years. Is it any wonder we are tired, mistrustful and have begun showing our anger as of late. This stream of bureaucratic, parasitic, public teat sucking, sociopathic, narcissistic salespersons who supposedly are here to act in our best interests...must end.
The people of Tofino are speaking up more and more because they are tired of having their trust violated. Sorry councillors, but being being told to "hush up" and trust you people, no longer works. You were given the mandate by us to govern but not to abuse that privilege. Keep in mind, what we asked for was not unreasonable. Transparency! Tell us what you are going to do before ramming it down our throats which appears to be a trend in not only municipal politics, but provincial, and federal as well. Just take it in the bum and shut up.

I'm from Yellowknife and I still have clue why Long was removed from office, so that's hardly transparent, but it the recent election was filled with anomosity between new council and the old council. The new mayor was from old council, so it doesn't surprise that he removed the SAO to get on side with the newly elected group. But it was a political statement. Not once did he ever say there was an issue with Bob Long. I find this to be the opposite of clear and transparent, and very much political-purposed only.
