The nomination period for the 2026 General Local Election closed at 4 PM on Friday, September 11, 2026.
In accordance with section 97 of the Local Government Act, the District of Tofino’s Chief Election Officer has declared the following individuals as candidates:
Candidates for Mayor
Candidates for Councillor
- Al Anderson
- Susie Doré
- Ali Sawyer
- Sarah Sloman
- Kat Thomas
- Rhys Walker-Shaw
Good to see the vast array of candidates, obviously community spirt flourishes. Stepping up to serve and sacrifice at times like this shows us all what true Canadians are made of.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see Al Anderson back for another term. His elegant rhetoric and inspirational leadership speak for themselves, our "rock" in all the chaos.
I'm looking forward to hearing all the spirited debate to come during the coming campaign, there's lots out there to be decided.
So get informed, get yourself registered, and get out there on election day and do your part. Your vote matters!!

If Eric could step back and just let Tom take over from Dan, as planned, since Tom's going to win anyway, then all the seats can be filled by acclamation and the taxpayers can avoid the expense of an election.
ReplyDeletePerhaps, in future years, this could be repeated and councils and mayors can just appoint their own replacements, should they choose to no longer serve. With guidance from staff, and the availability of consultants advice for more complex issues, input from misinformed citizens is hardly required, elections are a needless expense, a relic of a bygone era. In the New World Order, governments, like the one in Ottawa, will no longer be elected, they will be appointed and installed.
Maybe time to go down to four councilors.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea too. That's accomplished by way of a question on the ballot on election day. It can be done every ten years. Last time the voters chose to retain all six. That was about ten years ago? Must soon be time for another kick at the can? I don't know how it gets put on the ballot......

Deleteukee only has four seats. We do not need six and this seems to hang us up frequently. .
