It would also be a fantastic venue for Superstores new 'fresh local' market concept that is due to be introduced in North America. All the travellers can just get off the cruiseship style ferries and buy farmed smoked salmon(produced in China), cured herring roe(produced in Thailand) and Joe ceader bark clothes(made in Bangladesh). That sound your now hear is cash pouring in like a west coast rainfall in April.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6058014606755196991.post-90609455244977745512013-03-19T12:13:08.114-07:002013-03-19T12:13:08.114-07:006:01 are you nuts? bc packers bldg was a mess and ...6:01 are you nuts? bc packers bldg was a mess and and eyesore.
the OCP plan to make it into a ferry terminal and an open market got forgotten.
ocean outfitters is sort of like a ferry - the shore restaurant will be sort of like a market but kind of expensive maybe.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6058014606755196991.post-80980457312897456852013-03-17T20:06:37.789-07:002013-03-17T20:06:37.789-07:001:56 superb idea!!!!!!!!!

I suggest them allowing the use of their 'restaurant' space to be used as a public market similar to what granville island has. THis would be beneficial in that it could be done on any given day of the week (not just saturdays) and create a great space for tourists and locals alike on those rainy days. It would inherently increase the proffesionalism of the vendors as they would have to invest a bit more money. But the barriers of entry for entrepeneurs would be much smaller as you wouldn't need your own individual store front for whatever endeavour one has condurred. This seems like a interesting solution for increasing the diversity of the economy here and make it more accessible for people with less capital. And even then had to wait longer for their occupancy permits that cost more money and time.
Furthermore, I think that the Shore is a fast tracked and backwards thinking development that does not kickstart a revitalization of main street. It is a blatant gamble by some albertan developer (sic) that was ill timed with the real estate bubble bursting. Other law abiding citizens may not be paying for it outright but when we see the double standards of the law, we pay for it existentially.

By similar reasoning why not just give poole's land their camping spot license and legitimize what is already going on there? the city would make money off it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6058014606755196991.post-4764256998248403082013-03-06T10:45:00.606-08:002013-03-06T10:45:00.606-08:00Tofino's OCP supports the use of tourism (and ...Tofino's OCP supports the use of tourism (and its support activities)along the waterfront in downtown Tofino with a number of other mixed uses as well....Why not just permit the use of short term rentals at the Shore and at least start collecting some business license revenues from the absentee owners that can be put to good use within Tofino.
